History of Summerlynd…
The Summerlynd Development represents a new level of partnership between Skagit Habitat for Humanity and Home Trust of Skagit, two non-profit organizations sharing the mission of strengthening families and our community through homeownership. Originally purchased by a developer who was unable to fund improvements during an economic downturn, the property comprising the Summerlynd Neighborhood, located about five blocks west of the Skagit County Fair Grounds, had been in receivership for six years before being purchased by Home Trust of Skagit. Skagit Habitat for Humanity will provide the construction expertise and volunteers to build homes on that land.
Once completed, the Summerlynd Neighborhood will house eleven hardworking Skagit County families who have achieved their dream of homeownership. Currently Skagit Habitat has a contract to build seven of the eleven lots. Together, Skagit Habitat for Humanity and Home Trust of Skagit expect to set a new standard for affordable housing in the Skagit Valley.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the first two homeowners of Summerlynd was held January 25, 2015. Driving by it is hard to believe the changes since then. Come help us build a neighborhood, and be a part of the Downtown Mount Vernon Revitalization!
