An Affordable Home Repair Program
Skagit Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Home Repair Program helps local homeowners in need address essential safety and accessibility issues in their homes. From installing handicap accessibility ramps to improving entryway steps, these repairs allow current Skagit homeowners to remain safely in the places they’ve long called home.
The Critical Home Repair Program specifically targets low-income, senior, and/or disabled Skagit homeowners who cannot afford the necessary home repairs due to age, disability, or circumstance.
Our scope of work includes home repair projects, such as improving accessibility ramps, exterior steps, front porches, and other accessibility improvements for home entry.
The current housing crisis greatly impacts existing Skagit County homeowners, particularly senior residents, on fixed incomes. Many low-income, senior homeowners cannot afford essential home repairs due to inflation and the increased costs of building materials and construction labor.
By preserving affordable housing, our Critical Home Repair Program ensures that more senior, disabled, and/or low-income families in our community can live with dignity, stability, and security.
Creating Safe and Accessible Entryways
A few weeks ago, Skagit Habitat partnered with Marylou to repair her porch and deck. The steps and parts of her front porch had begun to rot, making it difficult and uncomfortable for her to safely enter and exit her home. Our incredible volunteers stepped in to replace the damaged boards, creating a safe and accessible entryway.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters like Marathon Petroleum, Marylou only paid 10% of the material costs, keeping the project affordable. All qualified homeowners are eligible for a zero-interest loan from Skagit Habitat to cover 10% of the total cost of the project, which may not exceed $5,000.
Thank you, Marathon, and to our amazing Critical Home Repair Volunteer Team for making this possible!
