About Us

Local citizens formed Skagit Habitat for Humanity in 1994

Skagit Habitat for Humanity celebrated 20 years in Skagit County in 2014, and will celebrate in 2015 with the first homeowner of the affiliate to pay off their Habitat Home.  At Skagit Habitat we believe in empowering people to empower themselves through our mission:  putting God’s love into action, Skagit Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community and hope.

  • 28 Skagit Habitat Homeowners:  have built safe, permanent, affordable homes
    • Skagit Habitat qualifications:  homeowners orientation, pass criminal/credit check, complete 500 sweat equity hours, attend required training/classes offered

  • Habitat Helpers Program: 20 low-income homeowners served (minor repairs/maintenance)

  • Job Training: over 300 individuals served
    • providing them with the needed skills in obtaining employment
    • SHFH has become one of the largest work-based training centers in Skagit County
  • $361,423 in property tax from our Skagit Habitat Homeowners here in Skagit County since 1994
  • $172,336 in sales tax from the Skagit Habitat Store put back into our community since opening in 2009
  • Over 14,000 tons of resalable materials saved from local landfills since the Skagit Habitat Store opened in 2009 with our ‘Recycle – ReUse – Restore’ motto
    • Skagit Habitat receives and picks up donations from individuals, organizations and businesses in the community
    • Skagit Habitat offers pickup to most areas for no additional charge — we are always happy to receive a gas donation for this service, of course
