Parkside Cottages Homebuyers: Dawn and Barry

Congratulations, Homebuyers!

On August 9th, Skagit Habitat for Humanity gathered with our incredible community to celebrate our three newest Homebuyer families: Bobak and Mckenzie, Barry and Dawn (pictured left), and Kelli at their Home Dedication Ceremony!

All three Homebuyers purchased a permanently affordable home at our Parkside Cottages project in Anacortes. Located off 29th Street, Parkside Cottages includes four, two-story duplexes with each unit hosting 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. This Home Dedication Ceremony was extra special, as Parkside Cottages is our first affordable housing project in Anacortes.

While our Homebuyers enjoy the special moment of cutting the ribbon to their brand-new home, the ceremony also serves as a space where our volunteers, donors, sponsors, local officials, and other community partners can gather in celebration. Our Home Dedication Ceremonies represent the heart of our mission – the “why” behind everything we do.

At the Home Dedication Ceremony, we heard remarks from Swinomish Tribe Elder Janie Beasley, Skagit County Commissioner Ron Wesen and Anacortes City Council Member Carolyn Moulton (pictured right), local officials equally dedicated to affordable housing initiatives in our community.

After words from Skagit Habitat’s leadership, including Board Vice President Mariah Haney (pictured left) and CEO Tina Tate, our Homebuyers cut the ribbons to their new homes, commemorating the beginning of their new chapter as homeowners.

Homes, Community, and Hope

We are beyond excited for our three newest Homebuyers who can now enjoy the comfort and security of their brand-new homes. With a mortgage based on what they can afford, our Homebuyers can now focus on building financial stability and generational wealth through affordable homeownership!

Homebuyers Barry and Dawn can continue to live and work in the tight-knit community they’ve created in Anacortes. Kelli (pictured left), and her two cats, will have plenty of space to host friends and family for the holidays. McKenzie and Bobak can enroll their two sons in the Anacortes School District, one of the most highly rated school districts in the state.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, volunteers, and community partners, three more families will experience strength, security, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership .

Thank YOU for your dedication to our mission, working alongside our Homebuyers at the construction site and Skagit Habitat Store to make homeownership their reality.

Our Village – Thank You Homebuyer Support Committee Partners

It takes a village to do what we do. Our team goes far beyond our staff to include volunteers, such as the amazing people on our volunteer-led Homebuyer Support Committee. We want to especially shoutout three support partners, including Julia, Doug (pictured right), and Stephanie.

Our support partners do just that. They support our Homebuyers throughout the entire homebuying process, answering our future Homebuyers’ questions and helping complete a portion of the future Homebuyer’s mandatory Sweat Equity hours. For many Homebuyers, this partnership remains strong after signing their mortgage with our Homebuyer Support Partners offering guidance through the first few months of homeownership.

Thank you, Julia, Doug, and Stephanie! We appreciate you!
